Guyana's telecommunications company ENet has successfully completed a multibillion-dollar subsea cable project connecting the town of Bartica to its fibre-optic backbone. Bartica, known as the gateway to Guyana's interior, will now have access to gigabit-speed internet, 5G mobile coverage, and advanced digital services, which were previously available only on the coast. The project involved laying fibre through challenging terrain, including crossing two major rivers, the Essequibo and the Demerara. ENet collaborated with Astra Services to overcome these obstacles, demonstrating innovation and resilience. The fibre backbone now connects seven of Guyana's ten administrative regions, making ENet the only operator with subsea cables reaching Region 2 and Region 7.
