The device, created by Cytecom, is currently in pre-clinical testing with the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. This technology uses a novel method where bacteria are exposed to antibiotics and then shocked with electricity to determine their survival, indicated by a fluorescent dye. This process significantly reduces the time needed to identify effective antibiotics from days to minutes, potentially improving treatment for conditions like sepsis.
