Amazon is seeking permission from local authorities in Darlington to launch the UK's first aerial package deliveries using drones. The company has assured that the noise generated by drones will be less than or similar to that of delivery vans. Planning documents submitted to Darlington Council indicate that drone noise levels will not exceed 72 decibels, comparable to household appliances like washing machines. The trial involves four drones operating from Amazon's Darlington warehouse, flying at heights between 55 and 85 meters, and delivering packages by dropping them into gardens from four meters high. Deliveries are planned for weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm, with the fleet capable of completing 21 flights per hour. Despite assurances, some residents have expressed concerns about the novelty and inconsistency of drone noise, which they perceive as intrusive.
