Exergy International has secured a €24.5 million contract to upgrade geothermal power facilities on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, Portugal. The project involves replacing older equipment at a power facility in Ribeira Grande to produce five megawatts of electricity using geothermal sources. This initiative is part of the Azores archipelago's goal to achieve zero carbon pollution within 25 years. Currently, the islands generate about 21% of their electricity from geothermal sources. The upgraded facility will produce 5.3 megawatts and reinject water back underground after use, preserving the resource for future generations.
