What's Happening?
Rolls-Royce has been selected to supply the propulsion system for Catalina Express's new high-capacity ferry, which will be the largest in its fleet. The ferry will be powered by four mtu 12V4000 M65L engines, delivering over 7463 kW. This project is part of the Port of Los Angeles' $31 million LA MER initiative, funded by the California Air Resources Board, aimed at reducing emissions. The ferry will replace older vessels, maintaining capacity while enhancing environmental performance. The engines are EPA Tier 4-certified and will be paired with advanced emissions control technologies.
