It’s an extraordinarily rare event for a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight result to be overturned by a commission, but today, it actually happened.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Cody Brundage’s unanimous technical decision loss to Mansur Abdul-Malik

at UFC Atlanta on June 14, 2025, has been officially changed to a majority draw, per the Georgia State Athletic Commission.

One of Brundage’s managers, Lance Spaude, broke the news on social media:

“Cody Brundage’s June 14th bout against

Mansur Abdul-Malik has been overturned to a majority draw. I want to thank the Georgia commission for their professionalism and thorough review of Mr. Brundage’s appeal.”

If you need a reminder on what happened, Brundage and Abdul-Malik clashed heads 36 seconds into the third round, leading to a TKO stoppage in Abdul-Malik’s favor. A replay official reviewed the incident, deemed the head clash accidental, and ruled the fight a technical decision.

The reason it is scored a draw is because, as per Georgia commission rules, “no incomplete round will be scored,” and since Brundage-Abdul Malik ended 36 seconds into the third round, it was incomplete.

Abdul Malik has yet to comment on the new decision.

Brundage, 31, has endured a bizarre two-year stretch of fight outcomes. In 2023, an illegal elbow from Jacob Malkoun earned him a disqualification (DQ) win. A year later, another illegal elbow from Abdul Razak Alhassan just 37 seconds into their bout led to a no-contest. Now, an accidental head clash marks his latest stroke of bad luck.

Has Brundage walked under too many ladders? His string of misfortune is almost unmatched in the UFC.
