Indiana and Purdue each have 11 games to play before squaring off in the annual clash for the Old Oaken Bucket this November, but new Boilermakers head coach Barry Odom is already getting shots in at his rival.
Odom made an appearance on 107.5 FM in Indianapolis not too long ago and addressed the topic of scheduling, saying that conferences should play 9-game schedules while noting the importance of playing matchups that fans could get excited about.
He then took a not-so-subtle jab at Indiana’s approach
to non-conference scheduling.
“I could take the approach of one of the other schools in the state, cancel games and do some of those things, but the schedule is what it is,” Odom said.
Indiana has recently moved to cancel non-conference series against Louisville and Virginia, replacing both with lesser competition. The moves set off a firestorm of criticism after being reported, with Odom adding his voice to those mocking the program.
