Fulltime Thoughts - Everton did decently enough but once again are beaten. Moyes will likely talk again about getting fresh legs in.

90+5’ - There’s the final whistle, and West Ham are the winners here, beating Everton 2-1 after another poor second half display for the Blues sees them fall to another preseason defeat.

90+4’ - Garner beaten in a foot race and trips his man, easy yellow card.

90+3’ - Heath with a good cross that Barry gets a foot on, but it goes wide. He wants a corner but nothing doing.

AD

90’ - Five-plus minutes to be added on here.
Travers with a big save off substitute Orford after a giveaway from the goalie.

88’ - Everton cannot fashion a chance from some possession in the final third. O’Brien stays upfront though and Tarky finds him with a long ball. He in turn puts in a delicious ball across the goalmouth and Barry is just a split second late to it. Oooh.

84’ - It’s all pretty ragged right now with no coherence to the play.

80’ - Young winger Isaac Heath is on now for McNeil on the right. Immediately into action and wins a corner. Garner outswinger on the right, cleared. Keane finds JOB put his header doesn’t really have any direction and Areola collects.

79’ - O’Brien concedes a freekick on the right edge of the box. Paqueta centers for Bowen, shot miscued. Ball finds to Wan-Bissaka but he can only find the side netting.

77’ - Alcaraz wins the ball in the middle and finds McNeil, his inswinging cross is heading towards Barry before Todibo intervenes. Good play.

75’ - Barry does really well to squirm away from a couple of challengers and finds Chermiti in space down the left, ball comes back to him but Paqueta then nicks the ball before Barry fouls him.

74’ - The Toffees’ possession has crept up to 37% from the first half when they were only at 30%.

69’ - Tarkowski is on now, along with Chermiti, with Gueye and Ndiaye off. The centrehalf is playing in his first game since sustaining a season-ending injury against Manchester City.
Garner and Armstrong in the middle now, with JOB out on the right. Tarky paired with Keane in the back.

64’ - Garner commits to an aerial ball and is beaten to it by Soucek, who finds Fullkrug in the space that has been vacated, and the German forward fires a shot towards the far post that Travers doesn’t even get close to, and it’s now 2-1 to West Ham.

63’ - Barry heads clear a West Ham corner. The young forward certainly has the size.

60’ - Soucek on for the Hammers, that makes it ten changes now for Potter’s men.
Ndiaye fouled. Alcaraz miscues his shot after the ball falls to him in the box, and it goes over.

55’ - Sloppy giveaway by Armstrong almost lets Bowen in, but Keane recovers quickly to block the shot.

52’ - Alcaraz give-and-go with Barry, then fires over.

48’ - Back to a 4-2-3-1 after those changes, with Keane and O’Brien in the middle, Garner on the right and Myko on the left. Gana and Armstrong are the two midfielders, with Ndiaye, Alcaraz and McNeil in front of them and Barry up top.

46’ - Alcaraz, Garner and Barry on for the Blues, with Iroegbunam, Patterson and Beto going off. Youngster acquitted himself very well.
For the Hammers, nine changes in all too.

Halftime Thoughts - Both sides have been atrocious on the ball, and guilty of big errors that have led to goals. Gueye scored Everton’s opener after Armstrong was quick to pounce on a loose pass, and then Travers gifted Paqueta the equalizer just before the break.

45+5’ - There’s the halftime whistle, 1-1 the score.

45+3’ - Ndiaye goes down and wins a freekick in the middle third. McNeil into the box, O’Brien finds Beto who heads it over.

45+2’ - Diouf goes down in a heap with Patto keeping an eye on him, this time the ref is not interested.

44’ - Now Potts into the box for a late challenge in the middle.
McNeil late on Marshall and West Ham have a freekick on the edge of the box, slightly to the right. There will be five minutes to be added on.
JWP and Paqueta over the ball, the latter takes it and somehow screws it the wrong way getting it closer to the corner flag than the far post.

41’ - Ooof Travers! The new signing comes out to punch a cross clear, and completely whiffs on it. Ends up popping it up in the air for Paqueta to prod home, 1-1 just before the break. Not a good look at all for the backup goalie who has been solid until now.

40’ - The possession stats are not pretty, with Everton only seeing 30% of the ball. Both sides have committed some egregious turnovers though.

39’ - Kyle Walker-Peters with a poor lateral that Ndiaye pounces on and leads the counter, but chooses to go it alone and his shot is charged down.

35’ - Corner is long, falls to Keane who can’t really connect on his shot and ball is cleared. Now Patto back into the box, Myko unmarked but can’t get his angles right and heads wide.
Oooh Iroegbunam looked to have beaten his man in the box but is called back for a foul.

33’ - Both Potts and Gana are back in play. Good buildup play leads to a JWP shot that’s blocked.
Areola out of his box to clear a Mykolenko long ball. Leads to a corner that Myko wins on the left.

30’ - Gana comes off worse in a 50/50 battle just outside the Blues box, and he’s down clutching his leg. Play goes on and Travers makes a very good save to his right.
Oh boy, really hoping this is not a bad injury, might have twisted something in the lower leg region.

28’ - Ndiaye does really well to win the ball in the middle and plays a long diagonal for Patterson to chase, but the Scotsman is beaten to it.
Another long ball for Iroegbunam to chase but Areola gets to it first.

25’ - JWP heads down a deep cross for Paqueta, he turns and shoots but blasts it way over.
Now Patterson breaks but is easily tackled on a 1-on-1 and loses the duel.

23’ - We’re at the quarter mark of the game and will stop for a minute for a cooling break.

18’ - Youngster Armstrong shows his worth with a beautiful interception in midfield and charges forward, Ndiaye on his left and Gana on his right. He feeds Gueye whose sidefooted shot is not the best but it squirms under Areola and Everton lead 1-0!

15’ - Now Diouf beats Patterson for pace and gets stamped on by the Everton defender right by the corner flag, another freekick. This is basically a corner that JWP takes, Beto heads clear for a corner.
JWP over it for the inswinging corner, Blues clear somewhat but the Hammers retain possession.

12’ - Marshall turns Keane inside out and the defender looks like he has the better of the young forward, but the Hammers player goes down outside the box and Keane gets booked.
Ward-Prowse to take, about 30 yards out, beats Travers and the far post, just. Phew.

10’ - McNeil and Ndiaye combine on the left, cross into the box and Gana stabs it goalwards and it goes off the arm of the defender, but the ref waves play on! That would be a penalty in any competitive game.
A minute before Beto got flagged offside but looked like he was on.

7’ - Poor clearance from Areola comes off Gana but the Blues cannot control the ball.

5’ - Everton have barely seen the ball in these first few minutes, giving it away way too cheaply.

2’ - Goodness!! Keane with a horrible back pass straight to the feet of Marshall but Travers is out like a flash to clear the danger! Phew.

1’ - Ward-Prowse gets us underway.

Idrissa Gana Gueye leads out the Toffees as captain for the day.

Starting Lineups

Everton look to be almost unchanged from the Saturday game against Bournemouth, likely in the 3-4-2-1 hybrid formation again, but this time in their new away kits. Harrison Armstrong replaces Charly Alcaraz in the lineup.

West Ham name a pretty strong lineup for their part, but dangerman Jarrod Bowen is on the bench.

Match Preview

Everton have now been in the USA for nearly a week now, and were torn apart on Saturday in the second half by Bournemouth who looked a lot more cohesive than the Blues did. Granted David Moyes’ side are still desperately short on numbers, but that is what these preseason games are for, to get some early miles on the legs so that the players can hit the ground running when the second weekend of August rolls around.

The Toffees added young left back Adam Aznou to the squad this week, with the player immediately jetting out to Chicago to link up with the team but this game will likely come too soon for him.

At another fan-event last night Moyes once again reiterated that the Blues are getting rebuffed in their efforts to sign players which was odd that the manager keeps banging that drum, publicly anyway.

West Ham lost narrowly to Manchester United in the first round of games of the Premier League Summer Series and will give the Blues just as stern a test as any tonight.

Last Meeting

Everton and West Ham fought to two draws last season, with Jake O’Brien bagging the equalizer in the return game at Goodison Park as Moyes was unable to beat his former side. The Blues did have the last laugh though, overhauling the Hammers in the final league table.
