Mayfield, 30, enjoyed a career-best 2024, completing 71.4% of his passes for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and a 106.8 passer rating, leading Tampa Bay to a fifth consecutive playoff berth. The restructuring converted $30 million of his 2025 base salary into a roster bonus, reducing his 2025 cap hit to $23.88 million and saving $14.4 million in cap space, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
The adjustment signals the Buccaneers’ confidence in Mayfield, who revitalized his career in Tampa after stints with Cleveland, Carolina, and the Rams. General manager Jason Licht expressed a desire to extend Mayfield long-term, per The Athletic.
