Week-to-week numbers figured to improve for WWE SmackDown on July 11. The previous show was pre-taped and ran on the Fourth of July, after all. And with country music superstar Jelly Roll on hand to set-up his big SummerSlam match with Randy Orton against Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre, they did.

Per Programming Insider, last week’s SmackDown was watched by 1,399,000 viewers and did a .37 rating among 18-49 year olds. That’s a 25% improvement in the overall audience number over the previous week’s record

low, and up a more modest 16% in the demo.

It still wasn’t a huge night on television, but a win is a win, and SmackDown cruised to one last Friday night. It was the highest rated show on broadcast or cable, with ABC’s rerun of Celebrity Jeopardy! finishing second with a .22 in the demo.

We haven’t heard if Jelly will Roll back onto SmackDown this week after two appearances in WWE last weekend, but we do know SummerSlam main eventers John Cena and Cody Rhodes will be there. Growing these numbers seems do-able... we’ll see if WWE can do it.

Here’s our running tally of the past year’s worth of the SmackDown’s numbers:

* Moved from FOX to USA Network (broadcast to cable)
** Added a third hour
*** Returned to two hours
