Imagine you just got a big ole raise at your job. Like a really big one. One that secures you and your future generations financially. How would you celebrate?
A big, fancy dinner? A party at the club? Staying at home with friends and family? A Backstreet Boys concert?
One of those may not be like the othera, but it’s how Luka Dončić spent his Saturday night after signing an extension worth over $165 million. During his press conference in the morning, Luka was asked how he intended to celebrate.
He
revealed that his teammates had a surprise for him and that he didn’t know yet. Well, it turns out that surprise was a trip to the Sphere in Las Vegas to watch the Backstreet Boys in concert.

That picture features Jeanie Buss with the Backstreet Boys then, from left to right in the back, head coach JJ Redick, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Luka, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaxson Hayes, Adou Thiero, Rui Hachimura, President of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka and majority-owner-to-be Mark Walter.
With so many friends joining him, it’s no worry that Luka might be shown the Meaning of Being Lonely. Outside of having so many teammates, new and old, join him, to get Buss, Redick, Pelinka AND Walter to join shows how big of a deal this is. And I sure hope Walter made The Call to foot the bill on this trip.
Now, circling back to the fact that it’s the Backstreet Boys that they chose to go see. While it might seem random, the astute fan might remember that Luka, in a sit-down interview earlier this year, revealed that the Backstreet Boys were his favorite boy band.

Jokes aside, this is clearly something that Luka would enjoy and it’s awesome to see Everybody out with him and celebrating. It’s a different vibe than the years of LeBron signing extensions with the team, but this is a different era of Lakers basketball.
One where Luka is The One. And, personally, I Want It That Way.
