The Dodgers drafted Mason Ligenza, an outfielder from Tamaqua Area High School in Pennsylvania, in the sixth round, with the 195th overall selection of the 2025 MLB Draft.
The 6’5, 197-pound Ligenza, a left-handed batter and thrower, has a college commitment to Pittsburgh if he does not sign with the Dodgers.
“He has a chance to be a four-tool player,” MLB Pipeline draft analyst Jonathan Mayo said during the live stream of the draft on Monday. “The one question is the hit tool.”
Kiley McDaniel at ESPN
mentioned Ligenza as a potential Dodgers target twice last week leading up to the draft, and ranked Ligenza as the 113th-best prospect in the draft.
From last Monday: “This year, they’re tied to the most high-variance prospect in this year’s draft, prep infielder Quentin Young, and a few others who fit later in the draft, such as Mason Ligenza.”
On Friday McDaniel added, “Keep an eye on James Ellwanger, Shane Sdao and Mason Ligenza as targets at later picks.”

The 18-year-old has already mastered professional cliches, telling Quinn Burkitt in the Republican Herald in March, “This game is based on failure but it’s all about the six inches between your ears. After every game it’s important to think of one thing you did well and one thing you can get better at.”
MLB Pipeline ranked Ligenza as the 217th-best prospect in the draft, while Baseball America had him at No. 378.
From MLB Pipeline’s scouting report:
There’s a lot of upside potential with Ligenza, starting with the 6-foot-5 frame he’s just starting to fill out. He has a ton of strength in his swing and at least plus raw power from the left side of the plate. While he dominated his high school competition, showing off a solid hit tool and getting to his power frequently, it wasn’t against the best pitching in the world, and he struggled more against better arms on the summer showcase circuit, with swing-and-miss issues concerning scouts.
The 195th pick has a recommended slot value of $317,200.
