Remember Armando Broja? Still a Chelsea player! ...for a few more hours at least!
According to multiple reports on Friday afternoon, the young striker is set to join newly promoted (again) Burnley in a permanent transfer, worth around £25m. There’s less confidence about the exact fee than the transfer itself, but that’s not a bad price, if true, for a once highly promising player whose career has been massively derailed by injuries in recent years.
After scoring 20 times across two seasons while on loan
at Vitesse in the Eredivisie (2020-21) and then Southampton in the Premier League (2021-22), Broja has just three goals and barely 50 appearances total in the three years since for Chelsea, Fulham, and most recently Everton. An ACL rupture in a training game during the 2022 World Cup break ruled him out for much of the 2023 calendar year, while he battled an ankle injury for a good portion of last season up on Merseyside.
But Broja’s still just 23, and if he can fully recover from those injuries — not just physically but mentally, too — he could be a very productive player yet.
Armando Broja is already at Burnley.
