Game Thread #120: Milwaukee Brewers (74-44) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (51-69)

WHAT'S THE STORY?

As Milwaukee continues its electrifying run, today’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates could mark the team’s fourth straight series sweep.

Brandon Woodruff is today’s starter, making his seventh start on the season. He’s been impeccable with a 2.29 ERA and a gaudy 45 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. His return from injury has not only been impressive in that regard, but he’s been remarkably efficient. He has pitched at least six innings in all but one of his starts, despite remaining under 90 pitches.

Pirates starter Mitch Keller has a 3.86 ERA on the year, but he’s struggled to a 6.27 ERA over his four most recent starts. He’s struggled with command, walking at least three batters in three of those four starts. The Brewers have been the best overall offense against righties by wRC+ in the month of August, so it’s a prime opportunity for Milwaukee to extend Keller’s difficult stretch.

Sal Frelick is batting leadoff, playing right field. The other outfielders are Blake Perkins and Isaac Collins with Christian Yelich at designated hitter.

Around the infield are Anthony Seigler, Joey Ortiz, Brice Turang, and Andrew Vaughn. William Contreras starts behind the plate.

First pitch at 1:10 p.m. on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
