Sonya Deville (real name Daria Berenato) and WWE parted ways earlier this year when the company decided not to renew her contract. She has not wrestled at all since her WWE exit.
With that in mind, Chris Van Vliet asked Sonya if she is retired from pro wrestling. Deville said she is retired for now, but she didn’t completely close the door on returning down the line given how most wrestlers don’t actually stay retired
.“Definitely for now. Never say never. But like, right now I feel at peace with
ADthat.”
Part of the reason why Sonya considers herself retired is because she’s so loyal to the promotion that didn’t want to bring her back.
I’m not gonna lie, and I haven’t said this, but it almost is like an open wound, and if I think about wrestling somewhere else, it’s like, I was so loyal to the company. Like you said, it was my only home from 21 years old to 31. I’m like a ride-or-die type of person in general. So it’s weird to even think about doing that but not there.”
The former WWE star is also comfortable saying she’s retired from wrestling because she is now pursuing her lifelong dream of acting.
“I don’t know what the future holds, exactly. But one thing I feel confident in is that the path I’m currently on feels so genuine to what I’ve always wanted in my life.”
Deville said she’s also doing some light MMA training and might be interested in dipping her toes in those waters again.
Are you bummed out that Sonya Deville might never wrestle again? If this is really it for her, what do you think stands out as her best career work? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
