AEW #1 contender tag team tournament bracket revealed

WHAT'S THE STORY?

AEW is dipping into one of Tony Khan’s favorite booking methods to determine the next challengers for the tag team titles. A tournament!

Khan previously announced an 8-team tournament with the winners advancing to Forbidden Door to challenge the Hurt Syndicate for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The first match saw FTR prevail over JetSpeed, but the rest of the bracket was blank. Not anymore.

AEW revealed the full tournament bracket. Take a peak at the matchups.

The remaining quarterfinal matches include:

  • Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn & Juice Robinson) vs. Big Bill & Bryan Keith
  • The Outrunners vs. Young Bucks
  • Gates of Agony vs Brodido (Brody King & Bandido)

The second first-round contest went down on Collision. Juice Robinson replaced the injured Colten Gunn. The Bang Bang Gang earned victory with great ring awareness from Austin. Juice executed an avalanche rana on Bryan Keith, but the Bounty Hunter rolled through for top position on a pin. Austin quickly entered the ring to roll the pile in favor of Juice on top, and the referee made the three-count.

Good news is that the Bang Bang Gang advance to the semifinals to face FTR. The bad news is that Austin suffered serious damage to his left leg at the hands of Bill’s brute force. Austin will have time to heal, but the leg could still prove to be a target for FTR’s strategy.

The next tournament bout will be on the July 30 episode of Dynamite next week. The Outrunners wrestle the Young Bucks.
