With the season just one month away and the 2026 recruiting cycle beginning to slow down, Rutgers currently has the No. 34 overall recruiting class in the country according to the 247 composite rankings. The Scarlet Knights saw their overall ranking drop off a bit after four-star Edge Wydeek Collier decided to reclassify to 2025 and join the team early.
The first piece of major summer recruiting news is that the Knights have landed three-star 2026 Florida CB Jamaries Conyers. Conyers announced his
decision last Monday. He recorded 38 tackles as a junior and has shown incredible intangibles like his speed throughout his high school career. Schiano and Co. will hope to mold his framework into a better, refined playmaker. Conyers chose Rutgers over N.C. State, Wake Forest, Michigan State, Iowa State, and Kentucky.
Unfortunately for the Knights, they have also been losing a few recruiting battles recently. Four-star EDGE Tyson Harley has committed to Penn State despite having taken multiple visits to Rutgers and having an official visit back in May. In his junior year at Gonzaga High School, Harley registered 30 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and six sacks. He chose Penn State over multiple Power four schools.
The Knights also missed out on four-star Defensive tackle Preston Carey, who announced his commitment to Georgia in late June. He took a visit to Rutgers earlier that month, but the Knights were unable to get him to commit. The Knights have landed two defensive tackles in the 2026 class, Donovan Johnson and Tavian Branch, who are both top 80 players in the country for their position group.
One of the last major battles the Knights have lost on the recruiting trail recently was for three-star Cornerback Devonte Anderson, who committed to Louisville over Rutgers. He had the Knights in his top three, along with the Cardinals and Maryland.
For some better news on the recruiting front, 2027 four-star running back Brayden Tyson has included Rutgers in his top eight schools. He has yet to take a visit to campus, but Rutgers seems to be doing well with the Georgia running back.
