With the MLB Trade Deadline fast approaching, fans and media members alike are on “Hug Watch.” Looking for the moment when a player might learn they are traded, give out some goodbye hugs to their now-former teammates, and head to the locker room to pack their things before catching a flight to their new team.
Things were a little different in Baltimore yesterday.
The Orioles played a doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday, with the first game a makeup game after a previous contest on April
11 was rained out. Baltimore took that first game by a final score of 16-4.
But with the Orioles fading in the American League East, Baltimore will be selling at the deadline, and general manager Mike Elias made a move between the two games, trading relief pitcher Seranthony Domínguez.
To the Blue Jays.
That meant that instead of leaving Camden Yards to catch a flight and meet his new Toronto teammates, Domínguez simply had to walk to the visitor’s clubhouse for Game 2:

As Domínguez headed out to the bullpen for Game 2, he had to walk by his former teammates, and he shared a few hugs before heading into Toronto’s bullpen:

While he did not pitch in the first game of the doubleheader, Domínguez was called on to pitch the seventh inning for Toronto:

Eagle-eyed observers did note something off about the numbers on the back of his jersey, perhaps because the clubhouse attendants did not have much time to get things ready for him:

Still, he took care of business for his new team, pitching a scoreless inning and striking out two of his former teammates:

While Domínguez and his new team lost both games of the doubleheader, falling 3-2 in the second, this is certainly a day the new Blue Jay will never forget.
