Whom do you think are the most important people in Bayern Munich right now?
If your answer was the rehabilitation team, you’re right.
The current injury crisis in Säbener Strasse demands the most workload from the rehab team, who have faced an onslaught of injuries since March. With several major players currently in recovery, the role of rehab coaches and athletic coaches is more massive than ever.
According to journalist Philipp Kessler from Tz and @iMiaSanMia, the team has under gone major changes.
Rehab coach Peter Schlösser, who has been a part of the team since 2017, and athletic coach Stephan Kerth, who has been around 2018 have both departed the club.
Reportedly, the coaches left before the Club World Cup, and the management is currently in discussion about whether the replacement will come from within or the club will bring in a new rehab coach.
It is further reported that, in their absence, the former under-23 athletic coach Jan-Philipp Hestermann was with the team during the CWC.
Prior to joining Bayern, Schlösser owned the WOYO Club, a yoga and pilates studio in Munich and made YouTube videos on fitness. Kerth, on the other hand, worked with VfL Wolfsburg prior to his Bayern move. He worked with the U17s and U19s before moving to the first team in 2022. He now freelances as a performance coach.
However, it is noteworthy that the rehab team has undergone multiple changes off late. It was just last summer when Prof. Dr. Holger Broich departed Bayern. He was replaced by Walter Gfrerer. Additionally, Bram Geers, and Markus Murrer too, joined the team.
It is noteworthy that Geers has worked with Kompany since his Anderlecht days.
One can only hope that these shifts in the rehab team help better the recovery of our players, and avoid future injuries.
