MJF explains why Tony Khan stopped taking potshots at WWE

WHAT'S THE STORY?

AEW Dynamite

One of the shittier aspects of pro wrestling over the last few years is the plague of really dumb tribalism that worsens the quality of discourse among fans.

WWE and AEW have both done their part to fuel that tribalism at times, with Tony Khan even saying it makes for more exciting television when both companies “truly hate each other.”

With that in mind, AEW star MJF recently observed that Khan is now being more professional and not talking about WWE online anymore. In an interview with Adrian Hernandez,

MJF indicated that Khan is so focused on AEW’s product that he can’t be bothered with the anti-WWE rhetoric.

MJF went on to praise AEW’s financial success under Khan’s leadership while putting himself over, of course.

“I think you’ll notice that Tony’s approach now is a whole lot more different, and this is the most professional he’s ever been online. He’s only talking about our company. He’s not throwing potshots. And that’s because the truth is, he really is now only focused on our shit, fully, and I will give him credit for that. This is the most ‘in the weeds,’ as the kids would say, that I’ve ever seen my boss be in, and I think right now we have an insane amount of momentum. And as much as I hate his guts, you have to give him credit for that. You have to.

We’re a six year old company, and we are the second most financially successful professional wrestling company of all-time. After only six years. It sounds fake, but it’s not. We had 82,000 people chanting ‘MJF’ at Wembley Stadium, the biggest wrestling show of all-time, where I retained my world championship. Sounds fake, but it’s not. We just did the second biggest show on American soil, at Globe Life friggin’ Field in Texas. Sounds fake, but it’s not.

All Elite Wrestling makes professional wrestling better, point blank. And I think the reason that when a WWE wrestler is getting interviewed they get asked AEW questions, and the reason why when MJF’s getting interviewed he’s getting asked WWE questions, is because the fans can’t help but be tribalistic. And I think it’s dumb, but by all means do with your fandom what you want to do. What I say is, just enjoy professional wrestling. But most importantly, enjoy me, because I’m a generational talent, and I’m here for a good time, not necessarily a long time. So, soak it all in while you can.”

Do you agree with MJF’s assessment about Khan’s more professional behavior, or do you think it’s just a matter of time until he’s insinuating that WWE is behind another anti-AEW army of bots? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
