‘Little Fella Is A Little Confused’

WHAT'S THE STORY?

The ‘Baddest Motherf—ker’ (BMF) belt got another wild chapter this past Saturday (July 19, 2025) at UFC 318, where Max Holloway made history by becoming the first fighter to defend the title. In a gritty unanimous decision, “Blessed” avenged his loss to Dustin Poirier, sending “The Diamond” into retirement with a heartbreak inside New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center, LA (watch highlights).

Post-fight, Ilia Topuria, the Featherweight champ and only man to knock out Holloway, stirred the pot on social

media, claiming he’s still the true BMF king. Subtle shade? You bet.

Holloway wasn’t having it and at the UFC 318 press conference, he fired back, telling Topuria to “Get over it, bro.”

Enter UFC Welterweight champ Jack Della Maddalena, who couldn’t resist jumping into the ‘BMF’ banter.

“Little fella is a little confused. It’s actually mine,” Maddalena wrote on his Instagram story.

If we’re playing the unofficial BMF lineage game, Maddalena’s got a point.

Here’s a reminder:

Jorge Masvidal birthed the BMF era by stopping Nate Diaz at UFC 244.
Kamaru Usman flatlined Masvidal at UFC 261.
Leon Edwards sent Usman to the shadow realm at UFC 278.
Belal Muhammad outworked Edwards at UFC 304.
Jack Della Maddalena dethroned Muhammad at UFC 315.

The catch? The BMF belt was only officially on the line for Masvidal-Diaz. Everything else is just fight game folklore. Still, it’s funny to see all of the fighters try and make a claim.

Nevertheless, Maddalena is putting his fictional ‘BMF’ title on the line—along with his Welterweight title—against Islam Makhachev later this year.
