One of the better fights on tomorrow’s Mario Barrios vs Manny Pacquiao PPV is off, as Mike Coppinger reports that Angel Fierro “encountered health issues during his weight cut” while preparing for his rematch with Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz.
Salvador Rodriguez reports and Mauricio Sulaiman confirms that Omar Salcido, slated to meet Brian Gallegos on the undercard, could step up on ultra-short notice. Negotiations are ongoing at time of writing.
Cruz (27-3-1, 18 KO) and Fierro (23-3-2, 18 KO) put on an absolute
barnburner in February, with Cruz beating the bejeezus out of Fierro in the early going before flagging late and allowing Fierro to stage an impressive (if ultimately insufficient) comeback. All signs pointed to another scrap.
Salcido (20-2, 14 KO) is a solid replacement considering th circumstances. He proved a handful for Andy Cruz earlier this year and ostensibly has the grit to withstand Cruz’s onslaught.
