The Mariners go for a series victory over one Texas team to pull within 2 1⁄2 games of another.
Logan Evans gets the ball on Sunday in the series finale against the Rangers. Evans remains one of the more interesting storylines left to be resolved in the season ahead. He’s given the Mariners a mix of performances, from the quite good to the less so. He’s one of the best pitchers in MLB this year when facing a lineup for the first time, but he’s struggled thereafter. This was true the last time he faced
the Rangers in his second career start, when he cruised through the first two innings, only to labor against the order on its second pass. With Bryce Miller coming off a rehab start on Saturday, Evans could lose his spot in the rotation in the next few weeks. But the Mariners have a shallow bullpen made shallower with the loss of Trent Thornton, and Evans can still make a case he’s one of the 13 best pitchers in the org.
Jacob deGrom gets the start for the Rangers. deGrom has been both good and healthy again in 2025. He’s already breached 100 innings for the first time since 2019, and he’s back into the top 20 starting pitchers by fWAR. The Mariners got to him in early April, but deGrom was a bit more effective in their second matchup in May.
The Red Sox completed their sweep of the Astros this morning. A Mariners win would move them to 2 1/2 games back as they begin the season’s final act.
