Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s place in the Germany team appears to be under threat now due to the goalkeeper’s back injury.
The stopper has undergone back surgery in France and is now sidelined for some time. There’s no official word on how long but a return is not expected until the end of the year.
Ter Stegen’s injury has put his Barcelona future in doubt, particularly after the arrival of Joan Garcia, while it seems he could also lose his Germany spot as well.
Diario AS are reporting that Julian Nagelsmann
is now thinking about alternative options while Ter Stegen is out.
Nagelsman has backed Ter Stegen unequivocally during his recent lay-off with a knee problem, but it seems he may be about to change his mind.
Veteran stopper Oliver Baumann is set to take over from Ter Stegen for now, but there’s also speculation that Manuel Neuer could reverse his international retirement.
It’s still not clear what will happen next, but there’s no doubt this is a tricky time for Ter Stegen and both club and country.
