Ben Brown is getting this start without an opener. “Without a net,” if you will.
Brown has been dominant at times this year — he’s got three starts of six shutout innings, including allowing just one hit to the Reds May 31 at Wrigley Field.
He’s also struggled mightily at times — he’s allowed
at least six runs in three of his last five starts.
Brown has never faced the White Sox and of the current Sox players, only Michael A. Taylor (0-for-1, a strikeout) has ever seen him. Perhaps that will be to his advantage.
Here’s hoping for the best for Brown.
Grant Taylor will be an opener for the Sox today. He’s done this once before, last month in Toronto, and has also closed some games for the Sox, with three saves.
This will be his 16th MLB appearance. He’s never faced the Cubs or anyone on their active roster.
Sean Burke was the originally scheduled starter and might be the “bulk guy” for the Sox today, so here’s some info about him. He had a rough start to his 2025 season, including allowing seven hits and six runs (five earned) to the Cubs in fewer than five innings May 17 at Wrigley Field. That included a home run by Dansby Swanson.
Since then, Burke has been a bit better, with a 3.74 ERA and 1.321 WHIP, and of his 10 starts since that game against the Cubs, he allowed two or fewer runs in eight of them.
That’s all I’ve got, Cubs. Just hit him the way you did in Wrigley. I have included his pitch selection chart below.
