By now, it s absolutely no secret that Bayern Munich is heavily interested in signing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz this summer, as the Colombian international is at the top of their list alongside VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade.

As things stand, Liverpool have already rejected two bids from Bayern for Diaz and remained firm in their stance that the player is not for sale this summer, but reports have suggested the player is open to leaving and would like to join Bayern. The German Rekordmeister’s initial

bid was just shy of 70 million euros.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), FC Barcelona have pulled out of the race for Diaz, having also been interested, which now opens the door more to Bayern, putting the onus on them to continue negotiations with Liverpool. Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has now stepped in to help negotiate with both Liverpool and Stuttgart for Diaz and Woltemade, respectively, hoping that deals can eventually be struck.

Per Romano, Bayern are preparing to back in “very strong” for the Colombian winger, so much to the point that Liverpool might very well have to listen to the next offer. It might be something too good for them to turn down, especially since they’ve already spent money to bring in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and they are very close to sealing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

Romano also reiterated the fact that Diaz has expressed his desire to leave Liverpool this summer, and to leave for Bayern. That works in Bayern’s favor at the negotiating table, but Arne Slot, Richard Hughes, Michael Edwards and the rest of Liverpool’s front office will certainly do what they can to try to convince Diaz to stay and potentially extend his contract beyond the summer of 2027.

There are a lot of moving parts to a potential Diaz move to Bayern. There’s an added onus on Bayern to bring someone of his caliber in since they missed out on Wirtz and since they will be without Jamal Musiala for several months after the season starts. Vincent Kompany needs that depth in the winger position, especially considering the injury histories of both Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman in recent seasons. At Liverpool, should Diaz stay, he would be competing for minutes with Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Ekitike if he does wind up getting signed in Liverpool’s attack given Diaz’s versatility to play as both a winger or central attacker - he been deputized in both positions under both Slot and Jurgen Klopp.
