New York Daily News | Peter Sblendorio: It’s been a rough go for Anthony Volpe. Even when he has a good game at the plate, like Tuesday’s win over Tampa, the Yankee shortstop still makes headlines for his two errors. He now leads the league in the category, and while errors can sometimes be an indicator of good range, the flubbed throws and even soft tosses to second have been the bigger problem. Still, Volpe is trying to stay confident in the trough period, even as he admits he’s not playing up
to his level.
MLB Trade Rumors | Leo Morgenstern: Mason Miller has captivated baseball fans for the better part of two years with his high-octane fastball. The right-hander isn’t a free agent until 2030, but the Athletics have received multiple calls about him ahead of today’s 6 p.m. deadline. The Yankees are one of those rumored teams, in need of heavy velocity and more strikeout potential in the bullpen. Given the prices we’ve seen for relievers already this year though, so much team control could push the bidding outside of the Yankees’ comfort zone.
New York Post | Zack Braziller: Austin Slater is now a Yankee. The club acquired the platoon hitter and world-class pinch hitter from the White Sox in an ongoing attempt to improve the roster on the margins. Slater is the kind of player I could see having a big, if surprising, moment in a Championship Series or the World Series, then again, the Yankees have to get there first.
