AJ Styles turned into something of a comedy act in his attempts at getting a crack at Dominik Mysterio and the Intercontinental championship. It was fun while it lasted, for sure. Finally, the champ was cleared and the match was made for tonight’s (Sun., Aug. 3, 2025) SummerSlam premium live event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Styles showed up in, well, style by paying homage to Eddie Guerrero:

They also paid tribute to Eddie during the match, with both trying to lie, cheat, and steal their way to victory. It only worked for Dirty Dom, however.
He played his tricks, one that included a loose boot that Styles yanked off when he was trying to score the win with the Calf Crusher. He then used that boot as a weapon to take AJ down, securing the pinfall to retain the Intercontinental championship.
