I think Goldberg’s last match will actually happen in AEW

WHAT'S THE STORY?

WWE

Goldberg’s WWE retirement match took place over the weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and he actually went over 14 minutes bell-to-bell with GUNTHER in a title fight that exceeded expectations. However, his post-match farewell speech was cut off as WWE ran out of time live on network television.

That’s just one of a few things Goldberg is pissed off about regarding the way WWE handled his sendoff. When I saw how much of a chip Goldberg has on his shoulder about the way it went down, I immediately

blurted out, “Oh no, he’s not done wrestling!” My mind then wandered to where he could have his actual last match, and AEW is the most obvious place.

AEW commentator Jim Ross also thinks Goldberg will be back for more. On his Grilling JR podcast, JR said he doubts that was actually Goldberg’s last match.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Goldberg...you dress that match up with the right opponent, Billy can be certainly back in the hunt for something. He’s proven that he draws. He still draws. He’s a very unique talent. So I hope that he does more. I really do. I just don’t know who it’s gonna be against. There’s plenty of candidates, quite honestly.”

Ross asserted there’s got to be more to come for Goldberg.

“I thought that they pulled the damn thing off pretty dang well in that match. I was happy for everybody involved. They delivered. I’m a big Gunther fan, and he did his part. He did what he supposed to do, at least it looked like it to me.

So we’ll see how it moves forward. I just don’t think that you blow it off at this point. There’s got to be more, a little bit more somewhere down the road. Whether it’s in WWE, or AEW, or wherever, maybe even New Japan. I don’t know. But he’s proven that if you keep him within his time restraints, that he can still deliver...Based on what I saw on Saturday, I don’t think it’s over for Bill.”

It sounds like Goldberg will offer more details in a couple weeks about his feelings on how WWE presented his retirement angle and match. But if he really is upset about what happened, and he looks over at AEW and sees the classy way they sent fellow WCW legend Sting into retirement, I don’t think it’s wild to suggest he may have one last match in the tank for Tony Khan’s promotion. I mean, can you imagine Bill making his long ring entrance to Dynamite’s former theme song “I’m So Excited” if his current theme music is off limits to AEW?

For whatever it’s worth, Ross suggests that former AEW World Champion MJF would make a great opponent for Goldberg who can “take big bumps” and “feed a comeback.”

Given that Goldberg is “pissed off” about how WWE handled his sendoff into retirement, do you think he’s really going to call it quits? If not, where do you think he’ll go next for one last match? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
