Brian Norman Jr spends some time talking to Mike Coppinger for Ring Magazine about his upcoming title defense against Devin Haney this November and why he’s feeling calm and confident heading into the fight. Check out some excerpts of what Norman Jr had to say below.
Norman Jr on Haney as an opponent
“First of all I will say, not just on paper but this is the toughest challenger to this point in my career...I was made for this, this is what I’m bred to do. Ain’t nothing forced, you do this same interview again I’m going to say the same the exact
same thing again just in a whole different way.”
On what we can expect from the fight
“We out here making movies, man. I made the movie out there in Japan, I made a movie with my first fight to become champion, shoot, I just keep on dropping hits after hits. So come November, there will be another one.”
On if he sees a weakness in Haney he can capitalize on
“I haven’t watched anything lately but of course I watched it when it was live and everybody just focused on my left hook. There’s more to the game than just a left hook...I got a jab, I got feet, I got this and I got that. So he gonna be looking out for the left hook, what about the right hand, what about the jab, what about the uppercut? I’m cutting the ring off the whole time, pressuring you the whole time, you can’t go nowhere.
“You think I’m going to load up. I ain’t got to load up, I just naturally hit hard. My hands are faster than what you think. Don’t let these cameras fool you, it’s different in person.”
