At pick No. 40, Shough is the last player selected in the 2025 draft to secure a fully-guaranteed deal.
The contract also includes…
The Louisville QB was selected by the Saints in the 2nd
round (40th overall) in this year’s NFL Draft. Shough also played for Oregon and Texas Tech, passing for a total of 7,820 passing yards, 59 passing touchdowns, and 11 rushing touchdowns through 42 games. In 2024, he led Louisville to an 8-4 record as a starter. throwing for a career-high 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns. The former four-star recruit also earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors in 2024 while being named one of three national Comeback Players of the Year.
Deals for 2nd draft round picks now take a little longer to get done primarily due to the amount of guaranteed money in their contracts and as of Thursday, 27 of 32 remain unsigned. So, with training camp literally around the corner, there have been some questions as to whether Shough could sit out and miss time, which could be detrimental, especially for a rookie quarterback who is battling for the starting spot. An interesting aspect of this contract is the roster bonus structure that is usually only given to first-round selections.
However, he has inked his deal, and everyone can move forward as all nine of the Saints 2025 NFL draft picks are now under contract just days ahead of the start of training camp.
