Real Madrid will officially say goodbye to Lucas Vázquez on Thursday, as the club and president Florentino Pérez pay tribute to the veteran winger following ten seasons with the first team. The farewell ceremony will be held at Ciudad Real Madrid at 1:00 p.m., marking the end of an era for one of the club’s most loyal servants.
Vázquez, who joined Real Madrid’s academy in 2007 at the age of 16, rose through the ranks from Juvenil C to Castilla, before eventually breaking into the senior team. He leaves
the club after making 402 appearances and winning an astonishing 23 trophies — including five Champions League titles, five Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, and four Spanish Super Cups.
A President’s Tribute
Florentino Pérez offered heartfelt words in recognition of Vázquez’s contributions to the club:
“Lucas Vázquez exemplarily represents the values of Real Madrid, which has made him one of the most beloved players by our fans. The figure of Lucas Vázquez symbolizes the hard work, perseverance, humility, and winning spirit that are essential to succeed with this shirt. He is a player who takes with him the affection and recognition of all Madridistas. Real Madrid is and always will be his home.”
Vázquez, who often played a key role whether starting or coming off the bench, earned a reputation for his work ethic and adaptability — often stepping in as a right-back or winger when the team needed him most.
A Personal Goodbye
The 34-year-old penned an emotional farewell to the fans, reflecting on his long journey with the club:
“Dear Madridistas, it’s been almost two decades since I arrived at Valdebebas at 16 years old, full of dreams and excitement to wear this shirt. Every step was a gift and, over time, Madrid became my home. We have lived unforgettable nights, 23 titles, and moments that will always remain in my memory.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the president, board, staff, coaches, teammates, and above all, the fans. You pushed me to always give a little more. Today, after more than 400 matches, it’s time to say goodbye to the club of my life, but I leave at peace, knowing I gave everything.
I have always been aware of the responsibility and privilege that comes with defending this badge. I have enjoyed every match, every training session, every trip... and if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that only you decide how far you can go.
I’m leaving Real Madrid, but Real Madrid will never leave me. Wherever I go, I will proudly say that I had the honor of playing for the best team in the world. Thank you for joining me on the most beautiful journey of my life. ¡Hala Madrid y nada más!“
