Having bounced back with two wins after dropping the series opener to the Braves, the Yankees righted themselves after things could’ve gone quite wrong in Atlanta. At least, we better hope they righted themselves, as arguably the biggest series of the season so far is now on tap.
Starting tonight, the Yankees will be in Toronto for a three-game set against the Blue Jays, and they start the series exactly three games behind the Jays in the AL East. A series win or sweep over the next couple days, and the Yankees could
set themselves up perfectly for a stretch run and the division race. A series loss or a Toronto sweep, and the Yankees could find themselves in a whole bunch of trouble.
To try and get the series off to a good start, the Yankees will be sending Carlos Rodón to the mound. Having pitched in the All-Star Game, Rodón did not appear in the series in Atlanta. His last regular start prior to the break was a dominant one against the Cubs, but he had been a bit iffy in the couple before that. That included one against the Blue Jays, which wasn’t awful by the numbers, but he only last five innings, having had some issues with control.
Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman will go for Toronto. For the season, Gausman rates as right around average, having struggled over the course of June and July. One start in that time came against the Yankees, and it was a similar story to Rodón, where he wasn’t bad but also was a bit too wild. We’ll see if either of them can figure things out tonight.
Here is all the information you need to watch and listen to tonight’s game, and we hope you’ll come join us in the game thread for all the action!
