Five-star LB Tyler Atkinson to announce commitment tomorrow

WHAT'S THE STORY?

One of the top prospects on Texas’ recruiting board is set to come off the board very soon.

Per Hayes Fawcett of On3, five-star Loganville (GA) Grayson linebacker Tyler Atkinson will make his commitment between Clemson, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas tomorrow live on the Pat McAfee Show.

Texas has been involved in Atkinson’s recruitment since last year, but it wasn’t until Atkinson made his way to Austin this summer for an official visit that things seemed to feel a little more real for the Longhorns in this recruitment.

Atkinson hails from Georgia, and the home state Bulldogs have been a central figure in this recruitment for a very long time, so it makes sense that conventional wisdom has had him pegged to stay home. With that said, the Longhorns have appeared to make a very compelling pitch to Atkinson and his family, and the Texas staff only has one linebacker currently committed this cycle. Brayden Rouse was pursued very hard by Texas before recently committing to Tennessee, and that left Atkinson alone at the top of the big board.

Atkinson is the nation’s top-rated linebacker according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, and he has posted incredible production at Grayson over the past three years, which includes almost 500 total tackles and over 30 sacks.

Texas scored a huge win over Georgia last cycle by pulling Justus Terry away from Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs. Tomorrow we will see if they are able to do it again and pull the state’s top prospect to Austin.
