Despite links to Saudi Arabia, Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae reportedly wants the chance to make a strong impression in preseason training to earn the ability to stay with the German Rekordmeister.
From Sport Bild reporters Christian Falk and Heiko Neidderer, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Kim Min-jae wants to recommend himself in pre-season to get his starting spot back. If he sees a chance to be a regular starter, then he would like to stay at Bayern [@cfbayern, @itstheicebird]
Does Kim have
a chance? He was part of last season’s undisputed top choice pairing along with Dayot Upamecano, so he does have the confidence of head coach Vincent Kompany. But Jonathan Tah’s arrival on a free transfer — and Bayern’s apparent mandate to sell — has changed the equation.
Center-back is a critical position and Bayern has had three top players to rotate at the position before. But with only two starting spots in Bavaria, it could be hard to keep the odd man out happy. How much would Kompany rotate? That may be the question Kim himself wants to see answered this preseason.
