Roster moves
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Recalled from Triple-A Reno: C Adrian Del Castillo
- Selected from Triple-A Reno: RHP Trevor Richards (No. 38)
- Signed as a Major League free agent: INF Sergio Alcántara (No. 3)
- Placed on the Restricted List: INF Ketel Marte
- Optioned to Triple-A Reno: INF Tristin English
- Transferred to 60-Day Injured List: C Gabriel Moreno
- Optioned to Triple-A Reno following Sunday’s game: RHP Juan Morillo
Well, quite a lot to unpack there. Firstly, don’t freak out about Marte: he’s taking a couple of days off, to deal with the aftermath of his house being burgled, while he was away in Atlanta for the All-Star Game. Can’t blame him for that. The bigger blow is the news that Gabriel Moreno’s absence is going to be a long one. His last appearance was June 14, so 60 days takes us until the middle of August, at the very
least. Replacing Ketel and English are Del Castillo and the return of Sergio Alcantara, who is in his SIXTH stint with the club. When he first inked a deal with the team, Corbin Carroll was an eleven-year-old. Here are the dates of his previous signings.
- July 10, 2012: Signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an amateur free agent.
- March 27, 2022: Purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Chicago Cubs.
- July 5, 2022: Selected off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the San Diego Padres.
- August 1, 2023: Signed as a Free Agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
- April 23, 2024: Purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
- July 18, 2025: Signed as a Free Agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks
Those have, however, totaled only 176 PAs with the major-league team, all of those coming in the 2022 season. If he gets onto the field - and it might need to be before Ketel has finished filling in the insurance forms - he’ll no longer be eligible as a One-Season Wonder for the D-backs. Finally, replacing Morillo is a genuinely new name, Trevor Richards. The 32-year-old is in his eighth major-league season, with Arizona his seventh team. He got most of his playing time with the Blue Jays, and overall has a 91 ERA+ across 293 appearances. This year, he got a cup of coffee with the Royals, and it didn’t go well: seven hits and two walks across three innings. We’ll see how this works out.
