GUNTHER successfully dispatched Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event, sending the old dog into retirement in Atlanta. There’s never any time to rest in the world of WWE, though, and the promotion quickly booked a match on Monday Night Raw
this week in Alabama to determine who would challenge for the world heavyweight championship at SummerSlam on Aug. 2 & 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.A Gauntlet match.
It started with Bron Breakker, fresh off a staredown with the champ himself,
where Paul Heyman put him over as a Steiner. Penta joined him to get things going proper, and they had a solid back-and-forth until Breakker hit a springboard spear to advance.
Next out was LA Knight, and he, too, was taken down by the spear.
Jey Uso drew the fourth spot, and he was doing better than those before him but Bronson Reed ensured Breakker got through him as well. That left only one guy between him and a title shot at one of the biggest shows of the year.
CM Punk.
Reed tried to interfere in their match too but this time Jey Uso showed up to even the odds. That gave Punk the chance to hit Breakker with the GTS, enough to put him down for the three second tan.
GUNTHER vs. Punk is happening, folks.
