La Familia’s road to a TBT title stayed alive Sunday afternoon, but not without a serious challenge from Auburn’s alumni squad, War Ready.

Led by Archie Goodwin, who poured in 16 points for the Kentucky Wildcats alumni team and was able to complete a late surge to defeat War Ready 80-76 at Memorial Coliseum in the Lexington Regional second round.

period and 51.9% in the first half, compared to War Ready’s 36.4%.

The contest wasn’t without its tension. In the second quarter, Andrew Harrison and War Ready’s LaRon Smith were hit with offsetting technical fouls as the game’s intensity ramped up.

War Ready made its move in the third quarter, trimming a double-digit deficit to just two points late in the frame. La Familia had a narrow 64-60 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Elam Ending was set at 79, and after both teams traded buckets down the stretch, La Familia finally sealed it. Kahlil Whitney came up with a clutch steal, then dished to Archie Goodwin for the game-winning score.

With the win, La Familia advances to the Round of 16, keeping its championship dreams alive behind strong play from several former Wildcats — and a few clutch moments when it mattered most.
