If there ever was a sign that Samuel Mbangula’s future would likely be away from Turin this summer, it’s the simple fact that his playing time at the Club World Cup was even lower of that following Igor Tudor’s appointment as Juventus’ interim manager. That is because Mbangula, the young Belgian winger who started the 2024-25 season with a bang, didn’t even play a single minute in the United States.

And just a few short weeks after a proposed move to the Premier League didn’t happen, Mbangula looks

to have a much more German upcoming destination.

According to reports from ilBianconero’s Romeo Agresti and others in Italy on Sunday, Juventus and Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have agreed to a deal for the 21-year-old Mbangula worth €10 million plus add-ons. Mbangula, who was a surprise inclusion in Juventus’ senior squad at the start of last season under Thiago Motta, now heads to Germany looking to find much more consistent playing time after he barely featured in Tudor’s nine-game stint as interim manager. A lot like last summer with the Next Gen graduates who were sold at a much higher price than what they arrived for, Mbangula will give Juventus a nice little capital gain for a player who first signed with the club in 2020.

Mbangula is expected to sign a contract with Werder Bremen through 2030.

Mbangula was a surprise starter in Juventus’ season opener against Como, the first curveball that Motta threw everybody when it came to playing youngsters who didn’t have much experience to their name. He repaid the faith his now-dismissed manager had by scoring Juventus’ first goal of the season just 23 minutes into his Serie A debut. It was arguably an even bigger surprise than his inclusion in the starting lineup, but he certainly made the most of the opportunity.

But as the season went on and the heat got turned up on Motta, Mbangula wasn’t able to replicate that same kind of success or get as many chances to try and do so.

In total, started just six more times in Serie A after his headline-grabbing debut. He finished with three league goals and added three assists in his first season at the senior level. In all competitions, Mbangula played in 32 games and made 11 starts. He totaled just under 1,100 minutes.

But when Tudor replaced Motta, the playing time absolutely dried up as a natural winger struggled to find time in a manager’s formation that doesn’t use wide players. Mbangula played in just two games under Tudor following the mid-March managerial change. Both of those appearances were second-half cameos off the bench that barely added up to 10 minutes in total if you included stoppage time.

With Tudor confirmed, it’s no surprise to see Juventus cash in on whatever market Mbangula had. He was part of a deal with Timothy Weah that could have gone to Nottingham Forest late last month, but that deal collapsed after both players rejected a move to the English side.
