Yankees announce 2025 Old-Timers’ Day/2000 reunion attendees

WHAT'S THE STORY?

World Series X

On Monday afternoon, the Yankees announced the attendees for their annual Old Timers’ Day event, set to be held on August 9th. As has been the case in several recent years, this year’s edition will honor an anniversary of a notable team in Yankees’ history, with this year marking the 25th anniversary of the 2000 World Series championship over the Mets in a “Subway Series.”

As you would imagine would be the case, plenty of members of the 2000 World Series team will be there, like Old-Timers’ Day first-timers

Roger Clemens, Alfonso Soriano, Game 1 World Series hero José Vizcaíno, and ALCS MVP David Justice. They’ll be there along with regular attendees like Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte, Paul O’Neill, Joe Torre, and other players and coaches from the 2000 team.

Notably though, Derek Jeter is not on the list of attendees for this year. Although he was MVP of the 2000 World Series, the Hall of Famer is not currently on the list of Old-Timers, despite having attended several recent editions of the event.

It’s not just members of the ‘00 team, though, as plenty of other beloved Yankees from the past will be there, including Ron Guidry, Graig Nettles, Mickey Rivers, Johnny Damon, and others. As also is tradition, the Yankees will also welcome and honor the widows of several beloved figures, as Diana Munson, Kay Murcer, and Jill Martin—the widows of the late Thurman Munson, Bobby Murcer and Billy Martin—will also be in attendance.

After a several-year absence, 2025 will also mark the return of the actual Old-Timers’ Day Game. They haven’t held a game since 2019, having initially stopped for COVID-19 related reasons, and then holding a Q&A on the field in its place. We’ve missed moments like Tino Martinez taking David Cone deep.

Having attended a recent Old Timers’ Day that didn’t feature the game, seeing the retired players don their uniforms and have some fun on the field again will be a welcome return. Maybe that’s a reason Jeter isn’t attending, as he has stated in the past that he did not want to play out of a fear of injury.

As mentioned, this year’s Old Timers’ Day will be held on Saturday, August 9th, ahead of a game against the Astros.
