Although it wasn't as lengthy as many transfer rumors we've followed over the years, Roma and Wesley França caused us a bit of a scare over the past week. Wesley's move to Roma, which once seemed like a mere formality, ran into some issues recently as Wesley's former club, Flamengo, looked for his replacement. Credit to the Brazilian club for doing their due diligence and making sure everything was in order before selling their top player, but it led to some headaches around the Romaverse.

no more, Wesley is now officially a member of the Giallorossi.

While the financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, it has been widely speculated that Roma will pay Flamengo €25 million upfront plus an additional €5 million in bonuses, bringing the total transfer cost to the much-ballyhooed thirty-million mark. Wesley, 21, has signed a five-year deal with the Giallorossi, keeping him in the Eternal City through 2030.

From the official release:

AS Roma is happy to communicate that Wesley Franca has completed a permanent transfer from Flamengo.

Born in 2003, the right wing-back collected over 100 appearances for the first team of the Rio de Janeiro-based club Flamengo. He also participated in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Moreover, on 20 March 2025 Wesley debuted for the Brazilian senior national team, with his team winning that match 2-1 against Colombia.

At Roma he will wear the number 43 shirt and will be the 46th Brazilian player in Roma’s history.

Time will ultimately judge this transfer, but with a €30 million transfer fee and a five-year deal that reportedly pays €2.5 million per season, Roma is going all in on Wesley.
