The landscape of AEW is changed forever

WHAT'S THE STORY?

AEW

Dynamite airs tonight (July 16) with a live show from Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Illinois. This is the first episode of Dynamite during the six week build to Forbidden Door, which takes place on August 24.

The landscape of AEW is changed forever

This past weekend’s All In Texas event changed the landscape of AEW forever. You don’t have to take my word for it, just look at AEW’s messaging on social media.

With that in mind, I’d say there are at least three match results at All In Texas that will create significant changes in AEW going forward.

The most obvious one is that Hangman Page is the new AEW world champion after defeating Jon Moxley in a Texas Death match. It’s great that we can actually see the belt again following nine months or so where it was locked in a briefcase. Hangman will kick off the show tonight with his first promo since winning the belt. What does he have to say about Swerve Strickland’s decision to help him win at the end of the match?

It looks like Hangman and Moxley will actually trade blows again tonight; AEW announced a trios match of Page, Mark Briscoe, and Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli. Can Hobbs get some revenge on the Death Riders after they injured Samoa Joe at All In? Will the finish of this match set up Hangman’s title defense at Forbidden Door?

Another notable outcome from All In is that TBS Champion Mercedes Mone’s undefeated record in singles matches came to an end at the hands of AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm.

Toni will deliver her victory speech tonight on Dynamite. She said “my panties have been creamed with delight” during the All In post-show media scrum, before running down a list of people to thank (including Mercedes) and others to go fuck themselves (including Athena). Let’s see if she brings that same energy to her victory speech tonight. If Mercedes crashes the speech, will she express a little more humility after taking her first singles loss in AEW, or will The CEO make shitty excuses for what happened?

Finally, the Young Bucks are no longer Executive Vice Presidents of AEW after losing against Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland at All In. This right here is enough to say the landscape of AEW is forever changed, as Matthew and Nicholas have been EVPs from day one. Then again, some might argue that they didn’t really throw their weight around enough for it to matter all that much. Tony Khan hasn’t announced what the Bucks are doing yet tonight, but of course it’s worth keeping an eye on how they plan to adjust to this new era of AEW where they have no power at all.

Tune into Dynamite tonight to hear from the top champions in the company and see how the landscape of AEW is changing in the aftermath of All In Texas.

Other stuff to keep an eye

- MJF and Athena are both guaranteed a future world title match after winning their respective Casino Gauntlet matches at All in. Tony Khan hinted that we’ll find out more tonight about when those title matches will happen, and that MJF and Athena should have some input into that decision. My best guess is that AEW will abandon WWE’s Money in the Bank style cash-in that they used last year with Christian Cage, because it was a pretty big dud that just didn’t work at all.

- Speaking of Cage, Adam Copeland returned at All In to save his old friend from the rest of The Patriarchy (and FTR), who betrayed Christian and were about to cave his skull in with a conchairto. Will Christian follow Adam’s advice to “go find yourself” and have a change of heart after being one of the scummiest assholes on the AEW roster over the last few years? More importantly, has Adam realized yet that “Cope” is a very bad wrestling name and this is a good time to get away from using it?

- Darby Allin returned from Mount Everest and said he’s going to take everything away from Jon Moxley. Did he accomplish that goal at All In by helping Bryan Danielson take out the Death Riders during Jon’s world title loss, or is this just the beginning of what Darby has in store for Mox?

- It’s being reported that Adam Cole suffered another concussion in the lead up to All In. Cole vacated the TNT title at the show and indicated that he may be facing retirement. Will there be any updates tonight on Cole’s health status?

- A lot of fans expected Kyle Fletcher would win that belt at All In, but it was instead 56-year-old Dustin Rhodes who walked out of Texas as the new TNT champion. Will this motivate Fletcher to become something of a legend killer and take out all the old guys in AEW who are holding him down?

- Will AEW World Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate continue to beat up on pretenders like JetSpeed and The Outrunners, or is it time to face some real competition like Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland?

- Anthony Bowens is irate after his latest failure at All In and says Billy Gunn needs to get his ass to TV this week so they can talk about what’s going on. Will Daddy Ass kick this loser to the curb and try managing The Gunns now that they are back in AEW (along with clean-shaven Juice Robinson)? Does Ricochet have a plan for taking out The Gunns and Juice after they fucked with him during the men’s Casino Gauntlet match?

- AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada is the new AEW Unified Champion after defeating Kenny Omega for the AEW International championship at All In. Will Okada walk around holding three different belts now and getting even more out of control flipping off all the bitches he crosses paths with in AEW?

- Where the f*** is Chris Jericho?

What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
