Nashville Sounds 10, Charlotte Knights 7 (Statcast box) The Charlotte Knights’ (47-49) offense struggled early in their 10-7 loss. They collected just two hits through the first five innings, but they finally picked up the pace in the sixth, scoring three times to take a 3-2 lead. Dru Baker doubled to lead off the frame, and Korey Lee drove him in with an RBI double. Andre Lipcius singled to bring Lee home, then Tristan Gray hit a sacrifice fly. Charlotte kept piling on in the seventh, this time with four

more tallies, giving them a 7-4 lead. The rally was highlighted by an RBI single from Corey Julks, a wild pitch that plated another run, and a two-run bomb from Korey Lee.

Knights starter Owen White navigated the first three innings unscathed before yielding the game’s first two runs (one earned) in the fourth. Justin Anderson took over in the sixth and struggled, allowing two runs to give the Sounds the lead and only getting two outs. Jared Shuster entered for mop-up duty to finish the sixth, but then gave up one run in the seventh. The bullpen woes continued in the eighth when Adisyn Coffey surrendered four crucial runs, including back-to-back home runs to Daz Cameron and old friend Bobby Dalbec. Cam Booser came out to try and limit the damage, but not wanting to feel left out, also gave up a run. The Knights sure can hit, but sadly, it was another night of being let down by horrendous pitching.

Birmingham Barons 2, Montgomery Biscuits 1
The Birmingham Barons (53-38) were engaged in a nail-biter and ultimately walked off the Montgomery Biscuits, 2-1. Strong pitching and a late rally in the bottom of the ninth handed them the victory. Barons hurlers held down the Biscuits’ offense for much of the game. The entire staff combined for one run over nine innings. Riley Gowens set the tone early with good work, allowing two hits, four walks, and five Ks over six frames. The righty didn’t capture the win, but earned his fourth quality start of the season. Eric Adler came on in the seventh and stifled the Biscuits bats as well for his inning of work. On the other hand, reliever Mark McLaughlin who pitched the final two frames, surrendered Montgomery’s only tally of the contest. It was actually his very first run allowed over nine appearances since being promoted to the Barons on June 24.

Birmingham’s offense came through in the clutch late in the game, after the Biscuits took a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth. The Barons’ hitters responded with a rally in the bottom of the inning that started with a walk to Sam Antonacci. Wilfred Veras followed by knocking a double to right to plate Antonacci. Then Veras quickly swiped third to get 90 feet from home, and he scored the game-winner on a ground ball single to right by Colby Smelley.

Winston-Salem Dash 5, Aberdeen IronBirds 1
The Winston-Salem Dash (34-55) offense wasted no time putting up three runs in the opening frame. Samuel Zavala and Jeral Perez set the table with a single and a walk, respectively, before Braden Montgomery drove in the first run with a line drive single to left. Then, a fielding error on a pickoff attempt allowed Perez to score. Alec Makarewicz capped the productive first inning with a sharp line drive single, plating Montgomery. The Dash continued to add to their lead in the second when Lyle Miller-Green tripled and then scored on Ryan Burrowes’ single. Winston-Salem pushed their final run across in the third, with Cole McConnell scoring on a sacrifice fly from Burrowes, bringing the score to 5-1.

While Aberdeen managed to scratch across a single run in the bottom of the second inning off starter Frankeli Arias, he quickly settled in and stifled any further threats. After the second inning, the hurlers completely shut down the IronBirds’ lineup, preventing them from adding any more runs to their tally. They consistently worked out of a few jams, holding the Birds scoreless for the remainder of the game and securing the victory.

Carolina Mudcats 8, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 2
After being held scoreless through four innings, the Cannon Ballers (43-48) finally broke through in the fifth. Mikey Kane reached on a fielding error and later scored on an Abraham Núñez single, tying the game at 1-1. They threatened again in the eighth when Grant Magill singled, followed by a Nathan Archer base hit. Arxy Hernández then delivered an RBI single, plating Magill and cutting the deficit to 3-2. However, the rally stalled there, and the Cannon Ballers were unable to add any more runs, ultimately finishing with just two tallies on the day.

The Mudcats took an early lead in the bottom of the first with a solo shot, but starter Ricardo Brizuela kept the game tight, shutting them down through his next three frames. Unfortunately, in the bottom of the eighth, Carolina busted the game open as they exploded for five runs off reliever Jesús Méndez.

ACL White Sox 5, ACL Mariners 1 (Tuesday/7 innings)
The ACL White Sox offense came alive in the second inning, scoring three runs to take an early lead against the ACL Mariners. Adrian Gil started the rally with a single, followed by Stiven Flores’s RBI double. After Bryce Eblin was hit by a pitch, Leandro Alsinois then delivered a two-run single, bringing home Flores and Eblin. They extended their lead in the third, adding another run on a wild pitch that scored Christian González. In the sixth, the White Sox put the game further out of reach with back-to-back singles by Flores and Eblin, followed by a Mason Dinesen RBI double, making the score 5-1.

Complex Sox starter Maximo Martinez kept the Mariners off the board through the first two frames, allowing just two singles and two walks while striking out one. Jeremy González took over in the third and continued to shut down the Mariners’ bats until the fourth inning, when he loaded the bases with one out. Ethan Hammerberg replaced González and managed to close out the inning, but did allow a run to score on a force out. Madison Jeffrey and Reudis Diaz closed out the game, each tossing a scoreless frame.

ACL Mariners 7, ACL White Sox 5 (Monday)
The ACL White Sox fell to the ACL Mariners in a contest ultimately decided by a defensive miscue. As a result, the Complex Sox found themselves in an early hole in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, shortstop D’Angelo Tejada committed the costly fielding error that led to three unearned runs, giving the Mariners a very quick 3-0 advantage.

Despite the early deficit, the White Sox offense worked to chip away at the Mariners’ lead throughout the game. Adrian Gil’s double in the fourth inning scored Marcelo Ácala for the Sox’s first tally, and a two-run sixth inning saw Mason Dinesen and Ácala cross the plate, closing the gap to 5-3. Unfortunately, the Sox bullpen gave those two runs right back in the bottom of the seventh. But a rally in the eighth saw the Sox put up two more on the scoreboard with Christian González coming home on a Stiven Flores single and Wes Kath scoring on a wild pitch. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to catch the M’s.

Starter Denny Lima battled through 4 1⁄3 frames, surrendering five runs (two earned) on four hits with a walk and two Ks. The righthander was tagged with the loss and dropped to 0-2 with a 5.01 ERA over nine starts. Wardquelin Vasquez and Marco Barrios held the Mariners scoreless out of the pen for a combined three innings, but Kevin Davis allowed two runs in the seventh, which ended up being the difference-maker in the game.
