Like most religious practices spectator sports has, over time, become associated with a number of rituals surrounding food. Regardless of whether anyone buys them, most of us still sing about “peanuts and cracker jacks” at baseball and softball games. Almost nothing is considered more stereotypically American than having a hot dog when seeing a game live. Nowadays, we even have the victorious team participate in ritual cannibalism of a bowl game mascot.
Still, it is well known that concessions are
essentially an overpriced cash grab. When I was young my family would make a point to drive from Portland to Eugene early enough for home football games that we could find parking near campus and eat at the Glenwood Restaurant, which was near Alder and 13th at the time, before waking across the river to Autzen stadium.
I’m sure other fans have similar go to spots on game day. I’ve compiled some spots near campus below, but let us know in the comments where you like to eat when taking in Duck sports live!
