With their seventh round pick (No. 196 overall), the White Sox selected third baseman Anthony DePino from the University of Rhode Island. The 5´11´´, 218-pounder was college baseball
’s only 20-20 player last season and boasted an OPS of better than 1.200.MLB did not rank DePino in its Top 250 heading into the draft, and as a senior with nowhere else to go this is very clearly an aggressive flier on a player who will be forced to sign at slot or likely under.
Power is a big part of DePino’s game,
as his defense and quicks may ultimately send him across the diamond to first base.
