On Monday afternoon, the Chargers placed five players on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) just ahead of the start of training camp. Per the transaction wire, they were wide receiver Mike Williams, safety Elijah Molden, linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips, wide receiver Jaylen Johnson, and offensive tackle Savion Washington.
There’s nothing to quite worry about this early as Williams and the other could be activated off of the PUP list at any time. Should any of the players remain on the PUP list past
final cuts at the end of camp, those players would be forced to miss at least four games before returning.
Mike Williams can be activated from the PUP list at any time, which means at that point he has passed a physical.

If a player remains on the PUP list when rosters are trimmed down to 53 players, he has to miss four games. https://t.co/eVDXYeQcxF
Molden’s placement on the list should not come as a surprise seeing as his severe injury came towards the end of the 2024 regular season. As for Williams, it seems like — as Jim Harbaugh would put it — he’s currently “working through something” and the hope is that it’s nothing too serious that will stretch into the regular season.
