St. Louis Cardinals coach Jon Jay may have unknowingly ignited Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres offense after an on-field verbal altercation, Saturday. The result of the exchange was a feisty Machado in the locker room after the win and a locked in Machado at the plate for the final game of the series at Busch Stadium, Sunday.

Machado turned in a 4-for-5 day at the
plate with two doubles and drove in three runs for the Padres as they dominated the Cardinals en route to a 9-2 win and a series split.
San Diego started the scoring early and added to the total throughout the contest. The Padres scored in five of nine innings and went 6-for-19 with runners in scoring position.
Machado made his first impact swing in the top of the first inning with runners at the corners. He lined a ball into right-center field that drove in Fernando Tatis Jr., who walked to start the game. Machado was running from first to second to get the double and as he slid into the base, the throw from Cardinals center fielder Victor Scott II hit him and kicked away, allowing Luis Arraez to score to put San Diego in front 2-0.

Machado made his second impactful swing with a hard ground ball that deflected off the glove of Nolan Arenado and rolled into foul territory. Elias Diaz and Arraez came around to score to push the Padres lead to 7-0.
