Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper and CEO Oliver Kahn was not as puzzled by Florian Wirtz’s decision to choose Liverpool FC over Bayern Munich as some other folks.

In fact, Kahn does not think it was a Bayern Munich vs. Liverpool...but a Bundesliga vs. Premier League call.

“I’m not sure it’s about the clubs. I think it’s first about the league. I don’t know whether it’s a problem for Bayern or a problem for the Bundesliga. As a player, the Premier League is the most attractive league: from a sporting,

economic and media perspective. The marketing opportunities are global in the Premier League,” Kahn told Sky Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “That’s the first thing I would consider as a player. When you think: okay, now I go to FC Bayern and become German champion for the 16th, 17th, 18th time - is that really appealing to me? Of course winning the Champions League is always appealing. There are a lot of thoughts and considerations that a young player has. Then of course there’s the team: which team, which system and which coach fits me better?”

There is very little doubt that the Premier League is a much more massive platform with a far great following than the Bundesliga. For a player like Wirtz, who has dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or, the choice between the exposure a top player gets in the Premier League and Bundesliga had to be easy.
