Mike DeBartolo has made his first trade of this deadline season. He sent Amed Rosario to the Yankees for two prospects. The two prospects are right handed pitcher Clayton Beeter and outfielder Browm Martinez.

Rosario was always going to be a guy with some value

due to his ability to hit left handed pitching. He is a natural platoon bat who can be on the bench against right handed pitching but mash lefties. Rosario is a versatile defender, who can play a number of spots, but does not play any of them well.

To the return, the Nats got a couple decent pieces. Clayton Beeter is a guy that can slide into a big league bullpen right now. He is the Yankees 20th ranked prospect and has big time stuff. Beeter has 39 strikeouts in 23.2 AAA innings this year.

However, command has always been a big problem for the right hander and has been what has held him back. He has a 96 MPH heater and a wipeout slider, but does not throw enough strikes. If the Nats can find a way to get him in the zone more, he could be an interesting bullpen arm at 26 years old.

Browm Martinez is the epitome of a guy you take a flier on. He is putting up insane numbers in the Dominican Summer League. Martinez is hitting over .400 with a 1.139 OPS in 57 AB’s. He is just tearing up that league in his second year there. Martinez is just 18, so this could be an interesting guy to follow moving forward.

This is a solid return for a guy in Rosario that the Nats signed to a 1-year $2 million deal. I like the idea of getting a guy who is close to the big leagues, while also taking a chance on a guy who has more mystery around him. Nice first trade by Mike DeBartolo.
