Kentucky Wildcats football is just over one month from kicking off its season, and with the season quickly approaching, head coach Mark Stoops held his press conference on Monday to update local media on the team’s process.
Though it took a few moments for the presser to find the topic of the quarterback battle of Zach Calzada and Cutter Boley, questions did eventually roll in on the status of Kentucky’s inevitable decision of who will lead the Wildcats in game one of the 2025 season.
While Coach Stoops
did hint that the QB competition is still up for grabs, the team would start Calzada if the season started now.
That’s not a knock on Boley, but it clearly shows how much both Stoops and offensive coordinator Busch Hamdan value the experience of Calzada along with his ability to execute with the group of players Kentucky has put together on the offensive side of the ball.
Kentucky fans saw Boley in action last season, and while there were both ups and downs, it doesn’t seem like fans would be opposed to Boley having another go at proving himself at the position.
Stoops also commented on having veteran Beau Allen in the mix and how that’s a major positive for the team.
Like it always does, Kentucky football’s depth chart is bound to adjust some before the season begin,s and that could very well include the quarterback position.
Only time will tell which player Stoops and his staff will go with, but all signs currently point to Calzada.
